STREET Museum
Our award-winning flagship project. Using technology to connect collections to communities.
Street Museum is a partnership between Durham University, Blackhall Community Centre and East Durham Creates. The pilot was funded by the Museum’s Association and UKRI.

The Street Museum model co-curates exhibitions between museum professionals and ‘left behind’ communities.
Through a very careful programme of democratic and ‘getting to know you’ events and interactions, to put respect and mutual understanding and the core of the project.
The first Street Museum took place in Blackhall and was guided by the people there. Supported by sophisticated 3D scanning and printing, a large outdoor exhibition, spanning thousands of years, crisscrossed the streets of the town.
